Instagram and hello to everyone

Hi All,

This post isn't really connected to the Funny Signs sections, but I felt like typing something different today.

I wanted to say thank you to whoever has been following my Instagram posts and twitter posts. I have the same name on both 'latoasia'. Feel free to follow me.

Secondly, I have been experimenting with doing a few tripadvisor reviews recently, and will continue to do so. I don't think you can link to this site from tripadvisor anymore, but I might post them here.

Thanks all for reading, and until next time.

Funny signs from around the world - Part 9

Hi All,

I saw the sign below on a walk I did the other day.

I'm sure the people who own the vehicle do an excellent job with home repair, and the other things they do.

However, note the name of the company 'Jim Will Fix It'. I guess the designers of the sign never heard of the show in the UK and the re-percussions from it.

Anyways, that aside, it is quite an inventive name, and I'm sure it brings in the clients.

Thanks for reading.

Funny signs from around the world - Part 8

Hi All,

I understand that some animals are more intelligent than others, but really asking them to close the gate is a bit much.

It goes to show that a bit of punctuation never goes amiss. Until next time..........

Funny signs from around the world - Part 7

Hi All,

I should mention that this is post 7 in a 15 part series of signs from around the world. Once I get to 15. I think all the posts will be put together in a separate page on the blog. You'll be able to see this from the links on the right.

This particular sign was actually taken by my father, when he was on his travels. I think he was in the USA when he took this particular picture.

I'm not sure how you'd ever have a tandem that was over 100 feet long, but it seems that in America they do things bigger than anywhere else!

Thank you for reading. Until next time.

PS. I'm also on twitter these days as well, and can be found under the name - latoasia1

Funny signs from around the world - Part 6

Hi All,

Here is a lovely little picture I took while on my travels in the UK.

Yes, it appears to be a boomerang duck. I guess that it is a warning for ducks crossing, and also for a bend. Just seems a bit funny to me.

Funny signs from around the world - Part 5

Hi All,

This sign was taken from an old quarry in the UK. It refers to a lorry and the bed (body) of the lorry being raised in order to deposit sand or gravel.

It isn't too difficult to imagine the sign meaning something else.

Funny signs from around the world - Part 4

Hi All,

This is the fourth post in the 'funny posts from around the world' series.

This sign was seen in a field near Arundel. I'm sure you have all heard of warning triangles. The one below is from www.clker.com.

However, I'm not sure many of you will have heard of the next sign. Please see below:

Yes, you see that right. Instead of a warning triangle. How about having a warning sheep instead? Not something I have seen before!

Funny signs from around the world - Part 3

Hi All,

This is the third post in the 'funny posts from around the world' series.

This photo caught me eye because here you have not one, but two massive stretched 'Hummers'. I don't know where they were going, they just appeared to be parked up. Quite an impressive sight though. Funny to see one of them, but two that 'stretches; the imagination. Lol.

Funny signs from around the world - Part 2

Hi All,

This is the second post in the 'funny posts from around the world' series.

I believe this particular picture was taken at one of the airports in the Middle East. It has obviously been put up to remind certain visitors that the best way to use the toilet is to sit and not stand on it and squat.

Funny signs from around the world - Part 1

Hi All,

I have decided to do a post about some interesting and amusing signs that I have seen around the world. You can see all sorts of amusing health and safety signs, and also names of places, and I wanted to showcase some of them here.

This is the first in a post of 5, and I wanted to open it with the following:

This sign can be seen in Cyprus on the beach a few kilometres away from Larnaca. It's basically telling you not to dive, as the water is (I guess) too shallow. It's right on the beach, and it's fairly obvious at first glance what it demonstrates.

The Dubai Tram

Yes, there it is. The Dubai Tram.Looks pretty sleek, modern and cool, doesn't it? The Dubai Tram was opened on 11th November 2014 and runs for 14.5 kilometres from near the Dubai Marina to near the Mall of the Emirates. It's part of Dubai's relatively new 'integrated' transport network.
It's a great idea, is relatively cheap, safe and clean, and a lot of people use it everyday. It seems to be fairly popular, and is great for tourists travelling around the Marina and surrounding areas. It also has plenty of records to its name, including the first air-conditioned tram stations, first stations with platform scren doors and first in the world with 'gold class' cabins.

There is one downside though, and that is the speed. The tram is simply, massively, massively slow. I have been walking down the Marina area, and some days this means that I'm moving almost faster than the tram. In fact, if I run, then it is possible to go as fast, or a bit faster than the tram.

In case you are wondering that all trams run at this speed, then that is not the case. Budapest, for example, has a tram (see left) that whizzes around at much higher speeds than the Dubai tram. It may not look as sleek, but it goes far faster, and runs for a longer distance.

This one is powered by overhead wires, rather than power from beneath the road, but maybe this allows for a faster speed, even if it looks slightly more unsightly.

In any case, back to Dubai. Another problem is that the tram causes massive tailbacks. If you live in the Marina area, you frequently have to pause at certain traffic lights, for longer than usual in order to allow the tram to turn right. It can be very annoying, and is an additional problem during rush hour, when traffic is heaviest. Why this wasn't thought of during the design stages, I do not know.

Anyways, it's a welcome addition to Dubai, and hopefully over the coming months and years, these issues will be ironed out.

UPDATE: I have been using the tram for the last few weeks on a daily basis, and it really isn't so bad. I do wish though that the tram drivers wouldn't state the name of the next station, and then play the automated - next station - jingle. It's a bit pointless. Just play the automated one.
